Picture you're in a  8:00 am English class, just as any other day.
Its cold, you're hungry and definitely not excited to be there.

Mr. K walk's in (we'll call him that for now)
Your suave and ultra intelligent Instructor.

After the Morning formalities, Mr. K asked His class assistant to write the Title
of the book we were reviewing that Morning on the board.

He realized He might've accidentally used a permanent marker after the first few words.
This happened often so nothing seemed out of the ordinary however, I strictly remember Him
scrambling to find a board eraser.
Mr. K then nudges His assistant to ask one of the girls for tissue.
We all seemed to look at each other for a few moments until it was obvious no one had tissue.
Mr. K's face couldn't hide his surprise.
A room of about 6 young Women and not a single one had tissue in Her bag.
In disbelief  Mr. K asked again, this time Himself

'does anyone have tissue' ?

We all shook our head.

That was when Mr. K said words that shook me to the very core.

'Any Woman that does not carry tissue is not a Woman'
-
                                                                                -those were his exact words

sounds like an African proverb doesn't it ?
This might seem very trivial but those words were the one thing that made me sit up in my chair.
It had never occurred to me that having thin sheets of paper pulp separated the girls from the Women.
I was baffled that a Man felt He had the checklist of what defined a real Woman.

I had Tissues in my Car but that wasn't the point.
The fact that I didn't have any tissues at that time put my Womanhood in question.
As I listened to the Men in class laugh and giggle, I was fuming with anger but I did my best to hide it. The last thing I wanted was to prove how emotional Women are over the smallest things.
It made me think of all the other rules that society had.
Everyday we are indoctrinated with what 'Real Men' and 'Real Women' do.

'Real Men don't cry',
'Real Men take care of their Kids',
'Real Men don't gossip'
'A Real Woman knows Her place'
'Real Women know how to multi task,
'Real Women are good house keepers'

We've all heard at least one of these before.
It seems like everyday society adds a few more requirements to the list as if things weren't hard enough.

Rather than just leaving the situation as it was , Mr. K felt He needed to share this with us,
For Our own good of course.
Now, an even bigger question came to mind, why was it Not expected for the Males to carry tissue ?
Have tissues become feminine or are Men just expected to be slobs ?
Are Men perfect beings that never make messes or need to wipe the sweat of their faces ?
Or are Women born with the clean gene ?
All of these questions came to mind.

This culture of generalization represents a very dark part of our society that most of us have just come to accept. We're far too occupied with out own struggle to be freedom fighters for the social plight of others.

Which brings me to my final Question :
If one of the guys in the class had tissue and offered it, would He be considered as less of a Man ?
Or would He be applauded for it ?

I'd really appreciate any feedback ..
